A Girls Guide to Lingerie

Published October 2007

Finding the perfect size and perfect fitting lingerie is key to looking good. It’s an integral part of any outfit and it’s just as important at getting the right dress size!

Underwear is a hot topic and there’s a huge choice of lingerie out there to suit all pockets. It can be overwhelming and difficult to find the right style that will totally flatter your figure and shape. Katy Bensley of boutique La Femme Fatale offers a few top tips on how to find the perfect lingerie style.

  • la femme fatale article imageThe first step will be to find your perfect bra size. When you know this (and you’re sure there are no red strap marks in sight) you need to decide the style of lingerie that’s for you and that compliments you figure.

  • Balconette, Balcony or PushUp Bras are superb for making the most of your cleavage. Balconette style bras are generally half or quarter cup style bras and create a seductive, push up look. Push Up Bras allow the cleavage to be pushed closer together. Such styles are generally best for A-D cups.

  • Triangle or Boudoir bras are becoming more popular – these soft cup bras that are best for A-C cup sizes, have a triangle cut over the breasts only and provide minimum support.

  • For those that are blessed with a D cup clevage and above, support will be a priority. Full Cup bras provide maximum support and coverage, and are great for larger busts.

  • Lingerie Designers are finally offering bigger sizes in pretty bras; smaller back sizes and larger busted ladies is a growing trend and more and more designers are recognising this in their Lingerie Collections.

  • Remember that everyone needs a Bra Wardrobe. Bras for special occasions, T shirt bras, cleavage enhancing bras, luxury bras, strapless bras - the list is endless!

  • On the bottom half men are still buying thongs as gifts whereas women are generally opting to buy the brief or the French Knicker. Either way, ladies want a flattering look for their bottoms!

  • French Knickers suit most figures and give a flattering fit with their short cut. They work well for most outfits. The Shorty is a more playful version of the French Knicker; it gives a bottom hugging, short style fit.

  • Remember that VPL’s are not a good look and the choice of pant type should flatter the outfit.

  • Accessorise with suspenders (follow your dress size for a good fit) and stockings and don’t underestimate the power of a Baby doll. A must have for any Boudoir!
