Lynda's Blog

Lynda loves running her interior design business, L Interiors , mostly because she has such wonderful clients (most of which become friends) and partly because it takes her abroad to wonderful places.

Lynda lives in the country – although as she much as she loves it, she’s an ex Notting Hill girlie and couldn’t do it 24/7! Her favourite online stores are GlamOnWeb.com (La Perla), JimmyChoo.com, SpaceNK.co.uk , Hush-UK.com and bbr.com (Berry Bros) because they supply her with the most delicious champagne!

Slick City Pads...
Published on Thursday 12th July 2007

No foreign jaunts for me since the South of France last month. Sadly I’ve had to stay put and tolerate the awful weather. The Regatta was water logged this year and for the first time ever, the powers that be saw sense and allowed us ladies to wear wellies - so myself and a handful of other girls got out our Spanish riding boots and teamed them with our summer dresses.

The weather has been better for the Henley Festival this week (a stay at Hotel Du Vin by the river and a trip to the Festival is well worth it) so this time it's Choo's as opposed to wellies.

Henley aside, I’ve been busy working on a really nice pad in the city, my brief was simple (we’re talking a male client here): get it all done yesterday with a plasma bigger than the sofa (although the sofa had to be big enough to accommodate all his mates) and possibly a bar squeezed into the corner of the room...!

It also needed a fabulous bed - I chose the Ligne Roset Maly Bed - very masculine, and splashed out on Frette sheets - probably the best in the world but then you do spend an awful lot of time in bed so it has to be worth it!

55 max sailingThen of course there was the fridge - naturally this had to be the Sub Zero (fill it with Heineken, bring in the girls and we have a very happy client!) and some artwork. This all came from 55 Max – home to fabulous photography.

Finally with the above in place I was allowed to choose the furnishings. They came from one of my favorite stores, Andrew Martin on Walton St - worth a visit, very inspiring. I chose the Hudson corner unit sofa because you can comfortably get eight on it - essential for the footie.

I used the Felix Perspex chairs for the dining area and added the Walnut Travertine coffee table (robust enough for several bottles, cans and takeaways!) to the living area. The curtains were kept simple yet stylish: most of the fabrics came from the Lombard collection. Designed with the city guy in mind these fabrics are called, Threadneedle, Fenchurch and Cannon.

(And don’t be mislead into thinking Andrew Martin is all about the city guy, there’s a great new collection called Mustique using blues and whites that I’ve used for some of my Caribbean clients.

Named ‘Interior Designer of the Year’, Andrew Martin’s book Interior Design Review , Volume 10 is out now I think it ‘s one of the best interior books around, grab a copy if you can.)
