A Day At Decorex... Published on Tuesday 9th October 2007
Last week saw the launch of all the new collections. We’re talking fabrics and furniture here and not haute couture, although the two industries do tend to run at a parallel.
Here is one such parallel: the city look - superbly tailored jackets and pencil skirts in beautiful wools and pinstripes and two fabric houses that followed the trend with collections of fine wools and suitings, Andrew Martin and Jasper Conran for Designers Guild .
As always, Andrew Martin had the most impressive Stand at Decorex, full of fabulous new fabrics and new additions to the ever growing and hugely successful ‘essentials’ furniture range.
The essentials range is a diffusion line and is therefore more affordable. The Sputnik chair is really cool as are the steel trunks - well worth a visit.
William Yeoward’s stand was a blaze of colour and I simply adore everything that man does; the new cushions and throw’s are an affordable luxury that would brighten up any interior.
I did discover a relatively new company that was attracting a lot of attention. Ben Whistler (pictured), founded by brother’s Ben and Sebastian de Groot in 1999, initially just supplied interior designers with custom made furniture.
It is now available to the public and the furniture on display at the show was incredibly stylish; I loved the Milingimbi Chaise Sofa , the Banda Bar Stools covered in cowhide and the Tahaa Bed upholstered in the most beautiful leather.
The range is not just limited to furniture and beds; they have a wide range of other items that includes tables, lamps and screens (to name but a few) and you can commission custom made items and supply your own choice of fabric.
There were just too many companies at Decorex to mention in one go and whilst the day was fairly exhausting - exhibitions always are – it was the best I’ve seen in a while.
Harrods kindly laid on hospitality by way of a VIP lounge where myself and my fellow Designers could retire for a much needed glass of champagne and some strawberries.
