A New Take On Self Tanning...

Published on Sunday 22nd July 2007

With a summer like ours, there are two ways to go to get a tan: delve deep and head to sunnier climates or grab a tan in a can and go to ‘St Tropez’ over night.

french_connection_beaded_tunic-laura-blog.jpgThe other day, fed up with my whiter than white body and concerned about how much of it was going to be on show if I was to wear my new French Connection tunic to a party on Saturday, I decided it was time to do something about it. Unfortunately jumping on a plane wasn’t an option so it had to be the latter.

I’ve always been a loyal fan of St Tropez so I was pretty excited when I saw they’d brought out an airbrush spray tan (not to mention their new wonder product, St Tropez Everyday). Surely if they can do so well in salons then this was going to be the purchase of the summer for me. I would be able to achieve the perfect streak free tan without the cost or hassle of having it done professionally... wouldn’t I?

Well through the post it came and that evening I donned the gloves and started to spray. But it wasn’t quite as I’d imagined. The nozzle got clogged; I sprayed so much in some places that it was dripping and not enough in others. Panicked that it was drying and I was going to wake up looking like a stripy tiger I manically rubbed and rubbed until it was evenly spread - slightly defeating the point of the spray I think.

All tanned up, feeling rather sticky and walking around with my arms in the air, I was more than a little concerned about getting into my clean, crisp white sheets... I laid out a towel - at least my pillow and bottom sheet would stay clean, even if my duvet didn’t.

After a restless night’s sleep, I was irritated to wake up and find that my towel hadn’t stayed in place and that my sheets were brown.

It has all been rather an ordeal and I was feeling reluctant to do it again.

tanasac.jpgThat was until I heard of the tanasac.

The Tanasac is a bit like a cotton sleeping bag (but big enough not to feel hot, sweaty, or to be reminiscent of camping). You place it over your sheet and under your duvet, tuck it in at the end, apply your self tan (I’m sticking with the mousse until I've got some quiet time to master the spray that friends say is fabulous) and slip into your sac.

I awoke the next morning having slept like a log, with sheets that were clean and a body that body that was golden!

In a word: genius.
