Jill's Blog

Jill, old enough not to want to give away her age, is mother to four demanding daughters that keep her on her toes when it comes to anything retail and beauty related.

Jill much prefers shopping online to fighting the masses instore and her favourite websites include Fushi.co.uk, OkaDirect.com, TimeToSpa.co.uk, Inverawe.co.uk and Trencherman.co.uk (the latter two keep the men in the family smiling!).

A Spenny Week...
Published on Monday 25th June 2007

Christmas aside, I’ve just had the most expensive week of the year. With four birthdays in three days, it really is second mortgage time. All of them (sister-in-law, a daughter, sister and brother-in-law) are pretty difficult to please, so by the end of May I’m panicking as the days approach, so this online shopping business has been an absolute godsend.

Sister-in-law works in the film industry and has somewhat quirky taste. If you drop in for a glass of wine, the wine will be great but the drinking vessel could be a small vase - she doesn’t mind, just as long as it does the task required, and lets face it, wouldn’t we all prefer a vase of wine after a hard day!

willow and stone enamelware jill blog She lives alone and has a delightful little house, not far from Upper Street as well as the most beautiful cottage that she inherited and has restored brilliantly. I ended up looking at a website called WillowandStone.com which has some really attractive enamelware perfect for the cottage. One down, three to go.

bodas beach wear luxe mail My daughter is not so difficult to buy for as she sends me links to all the sites she likes - my only condition with this is that I will only buy something if I like it too. This year her choices have come from French Collection , Net a Porter and Bodas and I’ve been able to find things that we (the panel of sisters and I!) agree on.

This year was a BIG birthday for my sister so I wanted to give her something special and on the jewellery front. I was inspired by BoBijou , Butler and Wilson and Bex Rox (and that’s only the ‘B’s!), and settled on a funky pearl necklace. I added a humorous cushion from Miranda Goodman which gave her permission to lie about her age!

My last challenge was my brother-in-law. He owns more shirts/ties/polos than you can imagine so I thought a trip to Amazon might inspire. He adores the television programme ‘Hustle’ - online shopping to the rescue and up popped series one and two – my final challenge solved!

Having said that, there are only 183 days until Christmas so perhaps I should start now………
