These days, my daughter heads off for school looking like an illustration from a Famous Five novel. With her hair in an easy-care Eton crop, the effect is, altogether, very dashing and all that seems to be missing is Timmy the dog.
I’m thanking my stars that we’ve been lucky enough to coincide with a fashion moment that is practical, easily adapted to the rigours of school life and – even better – British through and through.
To withstand the long march to the bus stop (except on days when she needs her cello), she wears a super traditional duffle coat – remember those? They still can’t be beaten for quality and classic style.
We searched long and hard for the perfect brogue and found it at Office.
I’m delighted that she’s turned her back on cheapy tote bags – they never withstood the rigours of the half hundredweight of books essential for GCSEs . Her choice, this time, couldn’t be better – entirely British and handmade, this traditional satchel will be an heirloom. Although she went for the classic brown, there is a range of completely yummy colours and I can’t help thinking that, perhaps, I really do need one too – what do you think?
