Beauty Balms
Published on Friday 22nd January 2010
So, predictably I am going to start this blog with mentioning the New Year. I could dwell on all the over consumption at Christmas and suggest detox diets, but that’s just boring, and setting unrealistic goals at the beginning of the year is not a good way to start 2010 - far more effective to focus on all the positives from last year.
For me, that’s not too hard. 2009 - Got married. One tick off the list of things to do before I’m thirty. 2010 is going to be about tending to all the other millions of things I want to do - only two years left so I better get a move on….
My Career being my first port of call. Starting January by contacting everyone in my rolodex…....not expecting to be at the height of my career just yet, but definitely a year to start reaching for it! Milan next week for the beginning of men’s fashion week – a good start!
It’s the same old thing every January; you call your friends for a catch up and the conversation becomes rather like a telephone call with a suicidal snail. Everyone is depressed about going back to work, feeling the guilt of the mince pies and pudding (and trying in vain to keep up the detox), and the months of wind, snow and rain that have weathered our beautiful summer tans have left us in despair. Whilst going to the gym is a step in the right direction, it is also a painful slog, and balancing tip toes on the weighing scales is another blow to those serotonin levels!
OK it’s not all that bad - some of my friends love their jobs, and others got engaged over Christmas. However the winter freeze is proving quite difficult, whether you’re snowed in at home and having to entertain the children all day, or simply suffering from chapped lips. Planning a holiday is always a great start to the year but reaching into empty pockets is not and whilst I cannot recommend many games for children, I will recommend investing in some great winter balms.
They’re thicker in consistency and so work harder than a light moisturiser and are very effective on dry skin. For chapped lips try Jo Malone and Kiehls’ lip balms, and for general use try Liz Earle Superbalm and Darphin’s Aromatic Purifying Balm.
I hate to wish the days away but I for one am counting down until Spring time…
