Biscuits Say a Thousand Words

Published on Monday 28th December 2009

Having (sort of) flown the nest, Kate now lives on the river next to the Tate Modern. She’s currently an intern in the hope that City University offer her a Magazine Journalism place come March and wishing it was January when she can pick up her new puppy.

Kate loves anything high-waisted, encouraging her father to buy things for her mother that she’d like to inherit, decorating cupcakes, and going to the theatre. She wouldn’t be without her Smythson’s Bijou Organiser, DR Harris's Cucumber & Roses or her latest novel.

Her favourite places to shop online are Matches (for dreaming), Reiss and The White Company.

Last week my brother announced that his second bun is officially roasting in the oven. Even though the little scamp will be cooking for 6 more months, I’ve already started thinking about potential well-done-for-having-your-new-baby presents. For number one (little Ol) I got a cuddly bunny. I haven’t seen the bunny since.

This time, I want to get something which won’t provoke my brother to roll his eyes and give me that ‘don’t-you-think-he’s-got-enough-deliciously-soft-floppy-eared-bunnies.'

For a few hours, I tore my hair and cursed the gods for the lack of innovative presents for newborns. Then I found Biscuiteers. They say: 'We love biscuits more than most people. In fact, we’re a bit obsessed.' Now, I love biscuits more than most people. In fact, I’m a bit obsessed.

So come the 6th June (give or take a week- the buns in our family are notoriously loath to leave the womb), I’ll be sending my brother and his wife this New Kid On The Block selection. This beautifully packaged tin contains 16 handmade darlings so pretty you (almost) don’t want to eat them. Try and roll your eyes at these, brother.

But my new obsession with Biscuiteers hasn’t been sated with just one biscuit-themed present. I want to get EVERYONE something from this fabulous website. Luckily, they’ve catered for obesessives. So...for my cousin who’s imminently to be married, what a treat it will be to find this vintage hearts collection in the post.

To celebrate my other brother’s passing out of Sandhurst, this champagne card is far more fun and personal than the usual Clinton’s number? Oh and for my friend Allan, I can’t resist these. Just because he really likes hi-tops.

I think I might never say thank you slash congratulations without biscuits again. After all, biscuits say a thousand words.
