Brain Food... Published on Wednesday 7th March 2007
Why is it that when faced with the munchies on a long car journey, whilst out shopping or during the day at work, it’s always crisps and chocolate that are at arms length?
It’s no wonder that this country has got a serious obesity problem when the only snacks that you can readily buy contain half a day’s calorie content and more fat than a MacDonald’s hamburger. And OK there might be all these faddy low calorie bars as alternatives but they take about 5 milli seconds to eat and fill you up for even less time.
Sitting in an office all day certainly doesn’t help especially when demon chocolate voices pop into your head at 3pm of an afternoon. And the new Malteser TV ad campaign certainly doesn’t help. If you haven’t seen it, it shows two girls sitting in an office, one munching, the other restraining – until that is, her colleague tells her that a pack contains less than 190 calories…
But, if you’re a chocoholic like me, one pack isn’t enough (in fact as I write, I’ve just devoured a pack of Minstrels and am feeling wholly unfulfilled) – you want a whole bucket!
So what’s the answer when you’re feeling peckish mid-afternoon, Marks & Spencer is a ten minute walk to the next block and the vending machine a thirty second lift ride to the basement?
Fruit. Yes, fruit. Eating chocolate and crisps before or after lunch usually results in guilt so why not reach for a banana, an apple or even a juicy pear, save all the bad energy and channel it into your work. For fruit that is fresh, delivered to the door and for all the office to share, there is just one name to know.
Abel & Cole are the dons of the box scheme. They deliver boxes of delicious, ethically produced, fresh organic fruit. They think carefully about everything they do: they buy as much as possible from UK farms, ensure all their growers get a fair price, take care of the environment and they always aim to give their customers a fantastic, friendly service!
And if you don’t fancy forking out for fruit, then why not ask your boss to, they aren’t called Brain Food Office Boxes for nothing!
