Jill's Blog

Jill, old enough not to want to give away her age, is mother to four demanding daughters that keep her on her toes when it comes to anything retail and beauty related.

Jill much prefers shopping online to fighting the masses instore and her favourite websites include EveLom.co.uk , OkaDirect.com, TimeToSpa.co.uk, Inverawe.co.uk and FormanAndField.com (the latter two keep the men in the family smiling!).

Catalogue Heaven
Published on Tuesday 6th November 2007

My husband thinks I’m barmy and you probably will too but this time of year gives me enormous pleasure as the Christmas catalogues fall through the letterbox with a huge thud.

Kevin, our postman, certainly earns his money as he lugs piles of these massive tomes up our drive, a real workout for him. I just love ripping off their very un-green plastic covers and diving inside to see what goodies I can buy as pressies and which I can only dream of owning. A flick through and then I’m straight online to look at the items that have taken my fancy from every angle and in every colour.

Today was a good haul, first to be torn into was the Brora catalogue, full as usual of the scrummiest and cosiest cashmere. I particularly liked the most beautiful Velvet Trim Cardigan that’ll look as good with jeans or cords as it will with a silk skirt or trousers for the evening.

In the baby section is my answer to the perfect baby gift, the Cashmere Blanket which comes in lovely soft colours and if the price is too much they do another range of baby blankets in lambs’ wool, and if anything I prefer the colours and patterns in this range.

Next on my list was the Franchetti Bond brochure with its great selection of bags and shoes, both attractive and practical. They have a terrific pair of brogues, so in this season and I would be happy with almost any of their everyday bags. Their new site is launching any minute soon and I’m waiting impatiently.

And if any of my family are reading this the Luxury Dream Journey Traveller at a mere £350 would be most acceptable in my stocking: a large vanity case filled with everything a girl could wish for on her travels, from cashmere sock and a cream pashmina together with a faux fur neck pillow AND a collection of Elemis product!

And if I could just be wearing the Cashmere Kimono Jacket from Charlotte & Co (picture left,£149), the world would seem just about perfect.
