Clothes That Heal... Published on Friday 25th May 2007
I don’t generally need an excuse to buy clothes, but if I did, I might now have a legitimate one. Scientists at Cornell University have come up with a fabric coated in microscopic nanoparticles that capture viruses and bacteria guarding us against the common cold and nasties such as smog.
Unlike environmentally friendly cars that look so horrible (I mean who designs these?) fresh new designer Olivia Ong has recently developed some functional fashion garments that not only look wearable but are also very fashion forward too.
Years of living in LA and breathing in all the smog gave Ong the novel idea. She approached the Cornell researchers and several months later they delivered.
A major drawback is the price. One square yard of nano-treated cotton costs around $10,000 (£5,000).
But when you think about it, a coat that claims to destroy the cold virus, eat smog and cleans the air? Regardless of the price, I’ve just got to get myself one of those!
Unfortunatley I’ll have to wait though because it was Ong’s graduate collection and isn’t available to purchase as yet.
