Come Fly With Me...
Published on Thursday 6th November 2008
Although I've waxed lyrical about in-flight beauty before, having spent the last few weeks doing a mini round-the-world trip for work and holidays combined, I've stepped up my beauty regime and felt it was only fair to impart my newfound wisdom!
The amount of travelling I’ve been up to really takes its toll on your skin. No matter who you are and how good your skin is – it always suffers. Celebs don’t wear enormous sunglasses when they get off the plane for nothing!
Follow my tips for in-flight beauty care and stay glamorous in spite of the over-zealous air con...
Up first: Fighting dark circles.
Always an issue for those long haul flights, especially if you don’t manage to get any sleep (which always happens to me!). My favourite under eye rescue is Avon’s bargain priced miracle cream Anew Clinical Eye Lift. This beauty editor’s favourite has become an overnight bestseller for Avon since its rave reviews on TV programme Ten Years Younger.
Before you land, thou shalt conceal. I definitely recommend trying the aptly named Secret Concealer by Laura Mercier. It contains moisturising vitamins which reenergise the eyes and helps it to go onto your skin evenly and blend in brilliantly.
Next: Keeping skin hydrated.
If it’s a short flight and you don’t want to upset your already applied makeup then a moisture mist is the best thing to keep on hand. A recent discovery I have made is Neal’s Yards Frankincense Hydrating Facial Mist. It smells stunning and is a real bargain at just £9.00. And it’s 98% organic too!
Then: Preventing dry lips.
Lips always suffer, so make sure you stash some quality lip balm in your hand luggage. My friends are always asking me if it's worth buying the posh balms over say, Vaseline. Although Vaseline is a staple in any makeup artist's kit, I think it’s worth investing in a branded lip balm too – to give your lips a treat. As readers of my blog will know, I love Crème De Lar Mer’s Lip Balm and Bobbi Brown’s Lip Balm SPF 15.
And lastly: Keeping hands moisturised.
I always have a hand cream handy when travelling. In fact it seems to be the only time I remember to look after my hands which is a habit I need to get out of! Especially when there are some really lush hand creams out there like Liz Earle’s Hand Repair. Not the best packaging for travelling but a great non-greasy formula with vitamins and anti-oxidants galore.
