Getting out and about... Published on Thursday 3rd May 2007
After years of working for large, multi-national companies, it was a shock to often find just me for company. I craved the gossip by the water fountain and found myself regularly joining my ex-colleagues for post work drinks. That’s when I decided that I needed to get out and meet like minded people not just to promote Brittique but also to provide myself with the much needed social interaction.
The first event I went along to was Aurora Network which is very large and can be daunting when you’re going alone. The speakers were interesting but there were a few too many life coaches pushing their business cards for my liking. However, I did meet a couple of very interesting women who have now become friends.
Next up was Sister Snog run by two hugely energetic and inspirational ladies. They put a lot of effort into each event to ensure that each is of a very high standard. While membership and the events are not cheap it means that there is a high standard of professional women attending the breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea events held each month. Since joining I have met so many really wonderful women, many I have been able to work with in some way.
The most recent event I attended was hosted by Marmaladya.com
, a new online glossy. Held in a swanky bar in Central London focusing on branding with Nadia speaking from There’s More to Life Than Shoes a source of inspirational for all women. It was an inspirational evening and I left with numerous business cards from some women I know I will stay in contact with.
Like anything networking is very scary the first time and does take some practise. I’ve found that if you just dress in a fabulous frock and killer heels, arm yourself with your business cards and a confident smile, it’s the perfect way to meet people and make friends.
