Grey needn
Published on Thursday 24th August 2006

It can be pretty hard to focus on one's winter wardrobe in August but somehow at the moment, it isn't. The last few days have been grey and miserable. I felt thoroughly fed up when I got home last night, until that was, I noticed the new Autumn / Winter Toast catalogue that had landed on my door step. The timing was impeccable.

Grey, you'll know by now, is the key colour for autumn / winter - and not only does it suit the English weather perfectly but there's also a shade to suit everyone (unlike mustard - another 'must have' of the season!). Their collection contains a range of understated and stylish grey pieces. Here are just a few of my favourites:

Cropped jackets (Mess Jacket £165, Little Cropped Jacket £155) are an absolute must have and they go with just about anything.

This dress (Fine Merino Sweater Dress £110) is so easy to wear - throw it on, add a belt and some thick black opaque tights - or if you're into leggings, they'd go perfectly. It'll look great over trousers too.

Toast's collection has quite a masculine feel to it. Their range of loose fitting white shirts (Visby Striped Shirt, £75) and wide leg trousers (Wool Oxford Bags, £119) are very Catherine Hepburn-esque (think Cate Blanchett in the Aviator) and so the new season.

Whilst Toast embraces the latest trends and fashions, their clothes are always accessible and most of their pieces look current for longer than the current season. It's well worth a look at the rest.
