Hazardous Hats and Hair
Published on Friday 31st October 2008
Last week I went to a brilliant party organised in aid of Libre Infanica - a fantastic charity supported by many of my friends, for which the theme was hats!
I am never shy of pulling out all the stops when it comes to dressing up and have a cupboard full of different costumes. However, I was in a slight dilemma as to whether I should limit the decoration to just above shoulder level.
I ensured a friend joined me in getting ready so that we could stand our ground confidently / share each other’s pain if we had perhaps gone overboard with our outfits. I always have that slight fear of a Bridget Jones bunny moment before entering the doors to a fancy dress party.
I decided to create my own headpiece using all sorts of bits and bobs – netting, lace, sequins and ribbons sourced from many different places including my favourite craft shop, VV Rouleaux.
A bottle of Elnett and a Mason and Pearson hairbrush later, and I was the proud owner of a Medusa like creation that would have scared the little cotton socks off any small infant. Being on shoots a lot I have learned a few tricks of the trade when it comes to big hair and backcombing! However - I was a little unaware of the repercussions of all this styling and my hair has been in need of some serious conditioning treatments since.
Whilst a visit to Richard Ward was exactly what was needed to replenish my hair and make it feel brand new there are also a few products that I use regularly to keep my hair nourished. A favourite of mine is the Kerastase Nutritive Aqua-Oleum which works wonders, as well as the more recession-friendly Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Luscious Long for deep conditioning.
With Halloween approaching, I’ll be stocking up on more than a few conditioning treatments and more importantly, some good make-up removers. Let the back-combing begin...
