How Green Is Your Milk...
Published on Friday 1st August 2008
A very nice man has just called on me. Normally if this happens I’m rather stand-offish but on this occasion I decided to listen to his patter.
His name is John and he comes from Dairy Crest, the dairy that delivers to the door. Yes, someone delivers milk (and fresh fruit juice) and it comes in REAL glass bottles - no plastic that’ll end up in the recycling box and may or may not actually end up being recycled.
I’ve signed up for a delivery on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and the dairy supply a box for the milk so that it keeps cool in warm weather and prevents the birds getting it in the winter.
Once signed up, there’s a huge range of items that can be delivered to the door, from all kinds of drinks and dairy products, to organic vegetables, bread, all sorts of groceries (loo rolls and pet food both feature) and even garden compost!
Now I think John is a hero, banging on peoples doors but I’m also very grateful to him as I’ve been thinking about returning to a milkman for a long time but haven’t quite got round to it.
What’s more you can return your bottles to the milkman when he leaves you your new milk – now that’s effortless recycling.
If you too fancy having your milk delivered then you don’t have to wait for John to call... Just go online to MilkDeliveries.co.uk and do your bit for the milk industry AND the environment.
