In-Flight Essentials...
Published on Monday 28th July 2008

I’m always intrigued to see what’s in people’s ‘Under 100ml zip-lock’ when they put it through security at the airport. I think it’s a real insight into what people see as their ‘beauty must-haves’ – or in fact how important people rank having their beauty products with them at all.

I think you tend to get 3 categories with the in-flight bag. Firstly there are the people that are convinced they’re going to loose their bag at the other end (very possible if flying from T5!) and therefore stuff the small bag with anything and everything they possibly can.

Then there are the people who’d really rather not bother and have just got a lipstick and maybe a bottle of perfume and some toothpaste.

Finally, there are the frequent flyers, like myself, who have managed to collect little miniatures of all their favourites and have them set aside just for flying. Items that cover all makeup and skin care essentials plus a mini perfume, hand cream, moisture face mist etc.

I always carry a gel based moisturiser with me – something that can be applied on top of makeup and not mess up your look – especially if it’s a short flight to a meeting at the other end.

I really like Ren’s Instant Lifting Facial Gel; its pump bottle is great to travel with and has firming ingredients in to give your skin a great lift.

creme de la mer the lip balm caroline blogLip balm is a must too as your lips are always the first to feel the lack of hydration. My ultimate luxury favourite is Crème De Lar Mer’s Lip Balm – it’s totally divine and has a minty refreshing taste to it.

If you’re not an A-list celebrity travelling with your makeup artist then it’s best not to go too overboard with the in-flight makeover. I have 5 essentials that give the perfect pick-me-up and make me feel fresh and glam when I arrive.

Under-eye concealer, mascara and eyeliner will help to open your eyes and disguise any tiredness you may be suffering from. Add to this a lip gloss and cream blusher and you’re (jet) set!

Enjoy your next flight and next time you’re bored in the queue at security take a peek at what people have in their precious see-through plastic bags!
