Jill's Blog
Jill, old enough not to want to give away her age, is mother to four demanding daughters that keep her on her toes when it comes to anything retail and beauty related.
Jill much prefers shopping online to fighting the masses instore and her favourite websites include EveLom.co.uk, OkaDirect.com, TimeToSpa.co.uk, Inverawe.co.uk and FormanAndField.com (the latter two keep the men in the family smiling!).
It's Fun To Celebrate...
Published on Tuesday 17th June 2008
Have you ever used Moonpig? If not then you really must give it a go. It makes the task of buying someone a birthday card not just a task but a REAL pleasure.
Whenever we have a family birthday or event coming up off I go, and this week I have a daughter and a sister-in-law who share a birthday (the latter has a really BIG birthday) followed by other family members.
When we sent out the invitations to a party we’re giving for the said sister-in-law I asked for any photos that people might have of her and a couple have really come up trumps. So onto a spoof copy of Oi! (could that be OK?) they go... the front cover now shows her at every stage of her life from playing in a tin bath in the garden as a toddler to getting her degree from the Open University a couple of years ago.
Then I do my daughter but I won’t go in to that as she may well read this before it arrives. Following her is my sister’s the next day and the day after that it’s her husband’s 60th.
They’re both involved in the racing world and boy have I had fun with that, particularly when I found one with a little rhyme about a race horse on it, I quote:
‘Horses are red
Horses are blue
Horses that lose
Are turned into glue!’
It has had me giggling all week, I just hope she doesn’t repeat the rhyme at Ascot – some of that lot might not see the funny side.
My final card of the week was a bit of a challenge. We’ve been invited to help some friends celebrate the fact that their family have lived in the same house since it was built 500 years ago and there is much partying to be done.
What can we do – no point in presents, the house wouldn’t appreciate them and anyway when the place is stuffed full of antiques what would they need? I know! A Moonpig card...
Amongst the spoof cards there’s a magazine cover for Country Strife (pictured) – what better than to personalise this for the family and the house. I've even recommended our friends’ top tips for dusting on the front of the card – well they have plenty of scope and should have the experience!!!

What to Wear to The Races...
Thursday 5th June 2008
I spent yesterday evening at the races where my eldest nephew who is an apprentice jockey had three rides. It seemed to me, having looked around at my fellow female race goers, that they needed a bit of help on the fashion front. Now we all like to dress up a...
What A Load Of Rubbish...
Wednesday 21st May 2008
Those of you who ever read my blogs may have already concluded that I do talk a load of rubbish, so today I will justify myself by talking ABOUT rubbish instead of just spouting it In the environmentally aware society that we live in I find myself having an ever increasing conscience that I...
A Tale of Two Scarves...
Saturday 26th April 2008
I’ve just returned from the most hectic couple of weeks I’ve had in a very long time and I don’t sit about! Firstly we’d been invited to birthday party in Yorkshire so we piled into the car turning the boot into a bedroom for the dogs and off we went. The weather was...
Confucius He Say...

The sentiment of the following poem (the origin of which is not known) drives our household and in particular my husband, who uses it as an excuse to get away with MURDER but it makes us all think – In an ancient wall in China A brooding Buddha blinks Deeply graven is the Image “It is...
Go Fish...
Friday 28th March 2008
Wishing I was on a tropical island is a bit of a waste of time and really - I love our island paradise here in Alderney even if being out in the rain is a bit like the ad on the television at the moment showing a woman being power showered by...
