It’s all about the waist – quick updates to your current wardrobe... Published on Friday 31st August 2007
I chose a terrible season to get pregnant because this season it’s all about the waist. It’s perfect for those of us who (normally) have a curvy figure. If you haven’t got a fortune to spend then you can easily update your look with one key piece – the corset belt (pictured, Amanda Wakeley).
Unsure what to do with all those sack dresses you bought last winter? Buy a good quality corset belt and experiment by belting them in. The same goes for oversized cardigans. Add an instant update with just one key piece.
Skirt and trousers are sitting high on the waist with tops tucked in. Current trousers all low slung? No problem, just tie a corset belt around your waist no one will know.
As for the length, after the minis of summer, hemlines have dropped again and this time to mid-calf. Whist this is quite a wearable length for most people just be sure to team with a heel.
Anything from a small kitten heel and higher will do, but ballet slippers will just give the “cankle”. (Note this length is also worked into high waisted, wide and straight legged trousers. Easy update – ask a good tailor to take off a few inches.)
For an easy transition into the winter look and before it gets too cold, try teaming your summer dresses with an oversized, chunky cardigan, boots and, that’s right, the corset belt. Winter dressing is going to be easy!
