Lynda's Blog

Lynda loves running her interior design business, L Interiors , mostly because she has such wonderful clients (most of which become friends) and partly because it takes her abroad to wonderful places.

Lynda lives in the country – although as she much as she loves it, she’s an ex Notting Hill girlie and couldn’t do it 24/7! Her favourite online stores are GlamOnWeb.com (La Perla), JimmyChoo.com, Hush-UK.com and bbr.com (Berry Bros) because they supply her with the most delicious champagne!

It's all in the Lighting...
Published on Thursday 26th April 2007

The recent hot weather, although lovely, has been incredibly distracting from work! But now that’s it cooled down a bit I’m getting back into the swing of things and am about to embark on a new client project where I’m going to be completely redesigning a lighting scheme to complement new interiors.

diffuse lighting Whether your interior is traditional or contemporary the lighting will set the mood. Good lighting should enhance your interiors and I always make this point to clients.

With good lighting you can use something as simple as calico for curtains and it will still look fabulous. Bad lighting on the other hand can destroy the most luxurious of fabrics.

Layered lighting works well. Invest in good overhead recessed spot lighting on a dimmer system which at the flick of a switch can be task lighting or in contrast, can be taken down to create a warm glow.

Lamps create atmosphere but be careful to choose the right colour lampshade because some colours can be very cold.

Uplighters give a nice wash of colour in otherwise dark corners or if you want to make a feature of something…

And finally don’t underestimate the striking simplicity of candles in storm lanterns… I light mine all year round.

And for the most unique porcelain lighting company, I’ve recently worked with Diffuse (www.Diffuse.co.uk ) and they’re well worth checking out.
