Dove have once again done a fabulous job in their latest thought provoking viral campaign. Click here and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Whilst some are calling them hypocrites, after all, their goal is to sell beauty products to women, I like the way they go about it. Dove is raising awareness about issues effecting women in a world that's obsessed with beauty and perfection - often at the price of individualism.
Currently pregnant I'm actually really quite worried about having a girl due to the pressure she'll undoubtedly face from the media. As I get older I'm learning to be more comfortable with me so hopefully I can lead by example and teach her to express herself and be confident with who she is. After all, we’re all individual and have differing tastes as to what defines beauty and style.
What we wear is a primary expression of who we are. I get tired of seeing the same high street dress walking down the street. It’s not self expression or individualism, it’s just conforming to what we think we should and what the multitudes are wearing.
 It’s often said that the “perfect” formula to dressing is knowing how to mix designer with high street and vintage.
Buying vintage is hard work and something I’ve only dabbled in with mixed success. For my day to day, I prefer to save on staple separates such as simple knits and layering tops and instead splash out on wonderful designer statement pieces; a dress, a coat, trousers or pair of shoes from an understated designer (I’m currently coveting this Aimee McWilliams number) that people can’t quite place and that I know will look wonderful whatever the occasion and wherever I am.
This way I can be sure that I look great, that I look like an individual and that I feel comfortable with who I am. Go Dove, you’re doing a great job.
