Men In Makeup...? Published on Wednesday 12th December 2007
I turned my last boyfriend into a product junkie within 2 months of going out with him. When we met he’d no interest in products whatsoever; he was a rugby playing macho guy who used deodorant, shower gel and a splash of cologne when he went out.
But as soon as I provided products and instructions on how to use them – he was hooked. Makeup though was a whole different ballgame. The horror on his face, when I gave him the preview product of the concealer Clinique launched for men last year, was shocking...
Whilst the product remained unused by the boyfriend, there are clearly men out there who are comfortable with the idea – Clinique’s concealer has been a huge success (Biotherm & Jean Paul Gaultier do ranges for men too). And, aside from Russell Brand’s use of eyeliner that can only be described as freaky, I’m not adverse to the idea of men in makeup.
And why not? Especially at this time of year when you want to look your best – what’s wrong with a bit of concealer to hide those dark circles?!
But how much is too much? How far would most men go and how do they learn how to apply it?
It’s not exactly something that you’d learn from friends like us girls did. In fact there was a guy who I went to school with who suffered from terrible acne and tried to cover it up with very badly applied foundation – not a good look.
So I guess it’s down to us to make it our duty to educate those more ‘metrosexual’ guys about the beauty of the sculpted natural look! It is the 21st Century after all.
