Mineral Makeup: The Latest Buzz Word
Published on Tuesday 15th April 2008

Mineral Makeup is without doubt the latest craze in makeup. Like the phenomenons of ‘Organic’ and ‘Free-Range’ within the food industry, ‘Mineral Makeup’ has hit the makeup industry hard and it’s set to be THE new trend for 2008.

Why? Because it has an angle that hasn’t been used in the cosmetics industry before; in an industry that’s notoriously competitive to be innovative in, ‘mineral makeup’ has a point of difference.

bare escentuals caroline blogThe 'Mineral Makeup’craze was kicked off last year in the US by a small brand called Bare Escentuals . And with the tag line ‘make up so pure you can sleep in it’ you can see why there was intrigue.

Virtually overnight (excuse the pun!) they turned from a small brand into a major retailer; all with one new product and a strong marketing campaign.

Needless to say the big players wanted to slice of the action and the likes of Avon and Maybelline (amongst others) now have mineral makeup in the form of everything from foundation to eyeshadow.

So why would you want mineral makeup? Personally, I’m not sure. If you use good skincare then you don’t necessarily need ‘minerals’ in your makeup. And I certainly would never advise anyone to sleep in their makeup – minerals or not!

In fact I’d recommend that other ingredients in foundations such as SPF/ oil-control / moisturiser are all far more important for your skin. (I think I’ll be sticking to my normal foundation – and removing it at night!)

But hey, perhaps I’m missing the point... (if you’d rather find out for yourself then it’s available online at HQHair ).
