My Own Denim Dilemma...

Published on Thursday 31st May 2007

A great pair of jeans is an essential part of any woman’s wardrobe, and given that one tends to wear them day in day out, it’s something to get right. For men it’s generally pretty easy. Once they’ve worn through the knees of their Gaps, Diesels or Abercrombies they usually decide it’s time for a new pair. They’ll go to the shop where they bought their last pair, buy them and be back home in under an hour.

For us girls though, buying a new pair of jeans is a long and complicated saga. If you’re anything like me (I wear jeans pretty much every day of the week so finding a good pair is a must) then you’re forever ‘on the hunt’.

Not being blessed in the height department makes finding any trousers let alone the ‘perfect’ jeans all the more difficult. Reaching 5ft 1 and a half (yes that extra half really is important) means that I usually have to take up any trousers by about a metre before I stop looking as if I’ve just walked off the set of Honey I Shrunk The Kids. With jeans you can’t really do this though as they tend to loose that ‘perfect’ shape that you’ve been struggling so hard to find.

Of course every girl has her own particular requirements for jeans whether it be high or low waisted, stretch or non stretch, boot leg or skinny leg, all depending on your shape and size. I go for straight or skinny leg with a bit of stretch and pockets that aren’t too high but that aren’t too low either... I know... fussy, small and very difficult to please!

But I’m lucky enough to have found a store that actually sells jeans to fit my requirements and, even better, I don’t have to break the bank to afford a pair...

Topshop is my little jean heaven!!! They cater for all shapes and sizes – petite (whoopy!), regular, tall, and even maternity, and they’re always bang on trend.

In the run-up to summer the runways were flooded with bright and colourful jeans, and as always Topshop hasn’t failed to pick up on this. In fact a click on to Topshop.com reveals denim in all the colours of the rainbow!!! Now I’ve just got to work out whether I’m brave enough to wear them...
