My TV Moment
Published on Tuesday 12th June 2007

For those having a baby the news can be distressing – stories of midwife shortages and birthing units being closed have been dominating the news of late. We (me and my partner at The Baby Gurus HQ) were delighted to be asked to take part in a feature on services available for parents to be, that was being filmed for ITV.

What a great opportunity I remember thinking… until it all sunk in.

The sinking in part wasn’t all that pleasant...

In the bathroom I consider how I will appear on a 42” plasma screen. My concern focuses on the fact that I have had three children in 5 years and bits of me have a tendency to wobble. I remember bygone days when the parts in question stayed put (note these parts are also affected by gravity, a lot).

Drawn and tired skin has replaced the English rose glow but a visit to Body Experience Spa in Richmond (well worth the trip – their thereapists have the best hands I know) and what can only be described as a miracle cure (aka a Pure Collagen Thalgo Facial) reassures me that my skin isn’t all that bad – in fact it comes out feeling better than I can remember.

My roots need regular attention and my hairdresser does a fantastic renovation and straightening.

My much loved and used make up needs a “makeover” so a quick order from Cosmetics a La Carte.com and we are back on the grooming straight and narrow.

The next question… what to wear on TV? Notions of spots and strips being bad for TV as well as adding extra pounds spring to mind. I opt for a crisp white shirt and cufflinks from Thomas Pink . Emma tones in nicely with a pretty white blouse. Ready!

The big day arrives (as does a huge camera) at the Berystede Hotel in Ascot. Jeanette Britton, ITV’s consumer correspondent briefs us and ensures we are relaxed and ready. We learn the art of ‘noddies’ (nodding to the camera a lot) and shortening our answers - not as easy as it sounds. The session flowed well and the overall achievement gave a positive outlook for parents to be. This was our first TV appearance and it aired this week. Feedback from Jeanette… ‘you were naturals’... if only she knew!
