Jill's Blog

Jill, old enough not to want to give away her age, is mother to four demanding daughters that keep her on her toes when it comes to anything retail and beauty related.

Jill much prefers shopping online to fighting the masses instore and her favourite websites include EveLom.co.uk, OkaDirect.com, TimeToSpa.co.uk, Inverawe.co.uk and FormanAndField.com (the latter two keep the men in the family smiling!).

New Year's Resolutions 2008

Published on Monday 7th January 2008

1. To never book into a hotel for New Years Eve again – if they get it right the chances are that you’ll be with a whole lot of people that you don’t know – and I’m way past kissing strangers!

2. To remind my husband that he’s really not 25 any longer and to go for a New Year’s Day swim in freezing water in the middle of the English Channel followed by three rounds of golf in 36 hours when he normally plays once a year is just plain stupid.

3. To eat and drink sensibly. To have smaller portions and to eat just three times a day (more likely to help lose weight than doing some daft celebrity diet).

4. To use the gym regularly but again ‘sensibly’. I usually go at it like a bull in a china shop after the summer and Christmas parties and end up doing some sort of damage that means I can’t go at all and that the chiropractor and physiotherapists mop up!

5. To read more than the gossip columns and to keep up with what’s going on in the financial market so that I can spend my money wisely and not end up with drawers and cupboards full of things that seemed like a good idea at the time.

6. To create a capsule wardrobe for the season and control my impulse buying.

7. To be nice to my children – as one of them kindly reminded me with the most delightful plaque – they will choose my nursing home.

8. To be really cool when they bring home boyfriends and not to ask too many probing question.

9. To be encouraging to the youngest daughter who has a year of exams ahead, and not to be confused by the fact that she is word perfect on the scripts of so many films but finds remembering her revision so very difficult.

10. To read all the above regularly and try to stick to at least some of them.

BUT DO I REALLY WANT TO BE THAT SENSIBLE...???!!!!

Or should I kiss all the strangers I can, let my husband wreck his body if he likes as long as the life insurance is up to date, stuff myself with all those little delicacies that I love, ignore the gym, get subscriptions to Hello and OK!, hit the sales, treat my children as they deserve to be treated, be really honest about all new boyfriends, shout at my youngest to get her act together and just BE ME!
