Pick-Me-Ups for Tired Eyes
Published on Wednesday 3rd February 2010
Julia Roberts, mum-of-three (and quite a big movie star) puts it so well: ‘I think the second meanest thing someone can say is ‘You look tired’.
Sometimes I’m so completely cream crackered I feel as lacking in sparkle as a horribly warm and flat G&T.
This week some disturbed nights for baby G (1) and a huge number of social evenings with the husband’s job have combined with a hugely busy time at work as we prepare for the Babes with Babies next two clothing collections. So I am definitely looking tired.
The best Ely coffee always makes me feel better but isn’t sustainable & doesn’t solve the bags issue.
When the sleepiness is really bad, your eyes feel dry and inside out and your brain feels upside down, try actually turning it upside down. Yoga devotees swear by a headstand to get all the lovely blood rushing to a glowing face. I have difficulty doing them without collapsing to the floor with a clunk and giggles.
Instead before I leave the house I bend my head over and give my hair a brush (upside down) with my Mason and Pearson. Voila, supershiny, big hair + brings a welcome rush of blood to the face.
And that’s what it’s all about. A tired face is normally a completely paleface. So for those days when I look more Gordon Brown than golden brown, my saviour comes in a tiny £12 tube.
A flush of blush. For my wedding, super nice make-up artist Catherine Scoble lectured me very sternly on how essential a bit of colour on the cheeks is to prettiness.
I am – like many women – terrified of 80s cheekbones with blush and looking over-made up. A colour which looks like you’ve pinched your cheeks is a real antidote to tiredness & I like the ones that you can put on in two seconds without big brushes.
Origins’ Pinch Your Cheeks is like a little fairy godmother whisking tiredness away (on the outside at least).
NB A glass of sauvignon has the same effect for me in the short term but not so good for the long-term managing tiredness thing.

"It's "when's your baby due" when you've already had it. I'd add when you've not even been pregnant which has happened to me several times including when some stewardess was trying to throw me off a flight in Indonesia and I was wearing a very floaty top. Needless to say my husband roared with laughter and still brings it up today, two years later"
