A recent trip to Scotland was met with the most awful weather. The snow came down, the wind raged and the birds (you guessed it this was a few days shooting) knew best and did not fly well! Thankfully we were well wrapped up and kept filled up with the odd Sloegasm and some delicious whisky.

After a long day we drove back (through a monsoon!), emptied the shooting bags and popped the pheasants into the freezer. This year they came oven ready because Drumlanrig Castle where we were staying is part of the Duke of Buccleuch’s Estate that’s in turn part of the Heritage Food organisation. Once home we quickly packed skiing bags and flew off at the crack of dawn to Meribel Village where daughter No 2 runs her chalet business.

After my Scottish weather experience I had neglected to bring my sunnies with me and of course the skies were blue and the sun blazing. What more excuse did I need, I went in search of some smart but sporty sun specs and found them in the Village – very smart Bolle sunglasses.

At lunch later that day we are all sitting in the sunshine when daughter No 3 pointed out that her father was actually wearing a pair of children’s sunglasses that just about fit in the middle of his face! We made an agreement that should I find a better pair for myself and that he would have my sporty ones.

I didn’t find any others in the Alps so once home I logged on and finally decided upon some Gucci’s that came with the very largest specs case I have ever seen. There not exactly skiing specs but now that I’m back I can worry about that next year...

I’ve now happily happily passed on the Bolle’s to my husband (much to my daughter’s relief) who at least looks grown up now.
