Glamour Without The Glitter…
We all want to look great at this time of year don’t we? Whether it’s to impress our colleagues or to find someone to have a cheeky kiss with under the mistletoe – what we look like is top of the agenda. So what’s the best look to go for to offset that new dress and shoe combo that you pre-spent your Christmas bonus on?
Now I know as much as the next girl that it's all too tempting to go for high-shine glittery products in an attempt to be 'festive'. But you need to be careful and pick out the products that have a shimmer but aren’t overly glittery. Subtlety is the key to glamour.
So choose a natural foundation but opt for a dewy finish. Trust me – it’ll make you look radiant and fresh and, it’ll look great in the photos! Use a liquid highlighter to contour your cheekbones. Just dab gently from the apple of your cheek up to your temple. You can also sweep it across the eyelids providing a base for your eyeshadow that’ll mean it lasts much longer. Perfect for the parties that go on into the night!
With eyes I recommend going for a lighter colour over the full lid. Something like Clinique’s Touch Tint for eyes in Gold Glimmer (pictured left, £12) is fab because it gives a soft shimmer and glides on easily (it’s a cream to powder formula). Then highlight with a darker colour (that matches your outfit – accessorise away!) in the outer corners. Also sweep the shadow underneath the eye, over your eyeliner, to maximise the colour impact.
At this time of year most of the cosmetic’s houses bring out their winter trend collections. I’ve noticed that this year there’s a strong focus on lips. They’re all encouraging us to be bolder with colour.
MAC are doing a Finery Collection of limited edition lipstick sets that I’d definitely recommend. They contain 3 shades of lip colour (packaged in the cutest little purses) so you can go as bold as you dare.
Bobbi Brown have brought out a ‘Best of Chocolate Palette’ - 4 beautiful shades of lip colour plus 4 eyeshadow shades to complete your look. When I can’t be bothered to start all over again on my makeup at the end of the day after a busy day at work, different shades within the same colour group are great to build your colour from daytime to evening with minimum effort!
I’ll be finishing my look with my favourite bronzer. Dip your brush into the bronzer to get the colour, tap off the excess and then pinch the brush to create a thinner application for the cheekbones. Sweep from the apple to the temple. For an all-over glow, ‘un-pinch’ the brush and gently apply to the rest of your face.
And hey presto we're ready to go!
