How often do you detox your wardrobe? If you’re anything like me, probably not. My mantra is, ‘If you haven’t worn it in the last 18 months you’ll never wear it’.
The number one rule when you’re clearing out your wardrobe is to be ruthless. Truth is - are you really going to be able to fit into those designer jeans that you bought at a sample sale two years ago? How often have you actually worn them? And no, prancing around in them in your bedroom doesn’t count.
So what do we do with the impulse designer clothes we’ve bought (and probably spent too much on) and are never going to wear?
My more generous friends would advise bundling them all up in a binliner and sending them to Oxfam. But I can’t stand the thought of seeing a homeless person by the tube looking better than me in my Vivienne Westwood dress - it simply wouldn’t do.
Other friend say ‘Oh, just put it on eBay’, but what happens if you don’t have the time or can’t figure out how on earth to do it?!
What we really need is someone to do all of this for us. Enter Chic and Seek. They’ll pick up all your unwanted designer clothes, put them online for sale and give you a taking.
How fantastic! Now I don’t feel so bad buying a Marc Jacobs bag if someone else online is willing to take it off my hands when I eventually get bored of it!
The guilt has vanished and thanks to an old pair of shoes, I’ve already made £50 towards my next sample sale.
Who said anything about vicious circles?

Give Me a Ring
Tuesday 18th August 2009
If I win the lottery this weekend I’m going straight to Nigel Milne. I blame my friend for starting this obsession, after she recommended I visit the site, as I was looking for some beautiful earrings to wear to a wedding. It’s a little more than I’d like to normally spend on myself...
It Must Be Love, Love, Love
Thursday 30th April 2009
I’m going to be totally frank. I find weddings a bit of a nightmare. Yes, yes, I know I always have a wonderfully champagney and fun time when I'm there, but the planning is a nightmare. What to wear, How am I going to get there, Will someone else be wearing my dress,...
Don't be Sheepish
Sunday 1st March 2009
I simply can’t believe that Ugg Boots are still ‘in’. I feel like we’ve been wearing them for most of our lives (whatever did we do before hand?). Whilst I am willing for a new trend to latch on I have to admit I still bask in the sheer comfort of these bizarre...
All I Want For Christmas Is...A Tidy Drawer
Friday 28th November 2008
What do you do with all your old school / university / random nights out photos? Stuff them into a drawer and plan to sort them out later? (Come on, we’re all guilty.) You may cringe when you look back at how bushy your eyebrows were at school or how ugly that first boyfriend...
Brooching the Subject
Thursday 16th October 2008
Granny has been wearing one for years, but brooches are officially this season’s must-have accessory. And when buying a whole new outfit just isn’t an option, it’s the perfect way to brighten up a tired ensemble. Avoid looking dowdy by buying brooches in pairs and pinning them diagonally on a jacket or dress. The...
