The Fashion Crunch

Published on Wednesday 8th October 2008

Considering the current financial climate, it's fair to say that the usual excitement surrounding Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks has been dampened.

Not the designers however, who, disregarding any global slowdown, are either in denial, believe that they are untouchable to the effects, or perhaps they simply didn‘t see it coming six months ago.

In the past, silhouettes, fabrics and colours on the catwalks have reflected the financial climate. A perfect example of this is the 90s, during which time the keywords in fashion were minimalist and subdued. It will be interesting to watch what the mood and inspiration will be for the Autumn/Winter ’09 collections.

dune seraphina bootHaving witnessed certain premium brands charging up to £2000 for a dress, and the latest ‘It’ bags edging dangerously close to the £1000 ceiling, over the last few seasons, a move away from extreme prices towards more affordable fashion will be a welcome change for us all.

If your bank balance is feeling the burn, you can always find something to suit at My Wardrobe, where we try to stock items to suit most budgets, as well as classic pieces that will remain firm wardrobe favourites when disposable trends just aren’t an option.

Aside from My Wardrobe, (yes there are other sites out there!) I'm loving these gorgeous Seraphina bootsfrom Dune, and the price tag won’t make your eyes water either.

If the slump can make shopping a less frightening experience by driving prices down, I will be inclined to believe that every cloud does have a silver lining. Watch this space...
