The Great Outdoors

Published on Wednesday 6th May 2009

What a nice surprise it was last weekend to open the papers and see something that really made me smile. On the first page of the Daily Mail was a picture of a glorious lavender field with the most adorable child frolicking amongst the purple haze.

noths-personalised-spring-plant-box.jpg It was rather a mish mash of good and bad news last April.

The newspapers constantly reporting on the gloomy recession and tough times ahead – bad news; but they also informed us that we were currently experiencing the hottest April this century – hoorah!

The sun is shining which is perhaps a reminder to us all that nature itself has a hand in our happiness.

So with that in mind I’m on a mission to change my ways and start appreciating the more simple things in life. Gardening; I think being the perfect place to start.

Well, it would have been if I had a garden, but unfortunately my third floor flat only allows space for some small window boxes. Nothing wrong with that though, and I’ve found the perfect ones to sit on our ledge. Furthermore, you can even send friends Personalised Spring Plant Boxes, and share the fun!

Attempting not to turn into my mother just yet though - she wakes up early every morning and shrieks with excitement as a new shoot appears from the soil in her vegetable patch...

With the weather looking a little more hospitable, a luxurious picnic in the park with fabulous food and wine purchased from Daylesford was just what the doctor ordered. With Hyde Park at my doorstep, my book – The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox (highly recommended!) - and the arms of my fiancé, I had no cares in the world. Maybe it’s true what they say - the best things in life really are free.
