The Latest Mascara Technology...

Published on Friday 15th August 2008

As a self confessed beauty junkie I’m constantly scouring the market for the ‘next big thing’ in makeup... and it seems it has arrived! What is it? Well the powers that be (aka the cosmetic giants) have developed a vibrating mascara! Yes, a mascara that vibrates as you apply, helping you achieve fuller and more separated lashes!

harrods estee lauder turbo lash mascaraLauder and Lancôme went head to head to get this product on the shelves; Lauder launched their Turbolash Mascara (£28) exclusively at Harrods just a few days before Lancôme’s Oscillation (£26) launched exclusively in Selfridges.

Why does the vibrating make a difference? Well according to Lauder product developers, it helps to achieve a professional lash-look without needing to be a pro. The mascara is said to deliver all effects – volume, length, definition, separation and curl – in one tube.

I had a go and was quite surprised at the result. I’m a perfectionist with my mascara and often use a combo of 2 mascaras to get the desired effect - this one does do it all in one (once you’ve got used to the fact it’s vibrating!).

Next stop Selfridges, to check out Lancôme’s version. The consultant demonstrated the vibrating wand and told me about the professional look it creates. Though I wasn’t able to try it out myself, I expect the results would equal Lauder’s. The only real difference seemed to be that Lancôme’s has an on/off switch and Lauder’s twists to vibrate.

So, if you’re looking for really professional looking lashes (DIY style) then vibrating mascara is the product for you. Happy lashes!
