Last week I found myself at the launch of the new Ralph Lauren collections - as ever - a splendid and inspiring evening. Whether your budget meets Ralph Lauren’s price tag or not, it’s bound to inspire you as it did me…
Let me start with the Mayfair collection and yes, glamour is back. Fabrics in black, white and creams, punctuated with tones of silver and pewter.
The bedroom set consisted of a Regency style four poster bed draped in silvered linen and the bedding, a mix of black and white paisley set against black and white fine striped sheets. The look was completed with metallic embellished cushions and the most luxurious silver throw.
This theme follows through into the dining area with Chippendale style chairs upholstered in the most lavish white alligator and the table set along the theme of black, white and silver with deco inspired crystal candlesticks.
The collection is intended to capture the glamour of the 1940’s.
Cape Lodge is as its name suggests a colonial inspired collection. Here we have a dramatic mahogany four poster bed, carved to resemble bamboo. The bed has been layered with texture and pattern using silk patchwork bedding set against crisp white linen.
Either side of the bed are huge trunks in Loden, however the room has its contemporary touches with glass and silver lamps and modern ottomans at the foot of the bed.
The dining table again has the colonial feel with woven wicker chairs against a mahogany table and laid, with leather chargers set against white china and huge olive green storm lanterns.
And finally American Summer … timeworn homespun quilts along with accessories for entertaining, gardening and trips to the beach. The towels are great, in red, white and blues ranging from nautical to native American blanket designs. The bedding follows this theme too with patchwork vintage feel cushions and blue and white bedding with splashes of vibrant red.
