The Perfect Little Party...
Published on Tuesday 8th July 2008

I have to give it to my sister in law, when it comes to organising and entertaining, she does everything absolutely beautifully; her wedding was nothing short of a military operation – five days (she's from the US) of parties organised and executed with serious style.

When it comes to her kids, the same rules apply. Her two little darlings never look anything short of pristine and perfect. Like something out of a Kent & Carey catalogue, the girls come to tea in matching smock dresses with pretty pink bows in their hair. (Sound twee? It is but fabulously so.)

Feeling a little rough round the edges (Henley Regatta was heavy and I don’t mean the rain) I can’t say I was all that enamoured at the prospect of a house full of children but needless to say, after a glass or two of Pimms and a Daylesford banger (she married a Brit - the grownups BBQ’d in the rain) it was well worth the effort.

It was no surprise to see my sister in law had gone to town with a powder pink and lavender colour scheme that incorporated plates, cutlery, napkins and table cloths. Table confetti comprised metallic pink and lavender ballet shoes and matching metallic balloons.

The piece de resistance had to be the Hummingbird Bakery chocolate birthday cake coated in the most deliciously sickly thick icing...

Whilst the girls played with new tea sets, dolls houses and BumbleBags party bags , we snuck off to watch the tennis (good on you Nadal).
