To Market, To Market

Published on Thursday 16th October 2008

It’s been another busy week, so busy in fact that I was forced to reschedule my appointment at Bliss Spa - very annoying but only a mild irritation compared to the hefty parking fine I received last week.

Working weekends is inevitable with my job. Unfortunately, this means having to leave the party early on a Friday night, but on the upside, I have the perfect excuse to stay in on a Saturday night and watch X Factor.

Last Saturday, as I rushed to my car trawling a heavy suitcase of make-up behind me I was welcomed not by my car, but instead a pyramid of homemade jams. I had forgotten to move my car the previous day in time for the new Farmers' Market.

My usual enthusiasm for organic sausages and homemade apple pies disappeared instantaneously at the thought of an expensive repossession of my wheels.

Having relocated my car after a few grumpy conversations with the market sellers, I zoomed down the A3 to Losely House for a shoot with Harpers Bazaar. (Check out the couture shoot in December’s issueIf you fancy a peek at what I’ve been up to!)

Once again I was welcomed by tents of fresh farm vegetables, organic cider, and other such yummy delights courtesy of the annual country fair, which was being hosted in the estate’s grounds.

A sudden feeling of guilt washed over me as I remembered I had been rather huffy with the poor market sellers back in London, who were just trying to encourage a healthy way of eating and support our local farmers, and decided it would only be good and proper for me to take half an hour to browse the market. (Any excuse to shop.)

For those in the Cambridge area (like me), order fresh, organic veg boxes straight to your front door from Wild Country Organics - a small, family-run farm in Abington.

Otherwise, one can always rely on Abel & Cole to deliver – literally.

How perfect! Not only do I avoid the time and effort of a supermarket shop at the weekend (allowing for a few extra hours in bed), I have the freshest wholesome food at my fingertips to revive my tiresome bones.

Whilst I don’t have the time to reschedule that much-needed facial, some fresh food could be just the medicine I need to prepare myself for another busy week...
