Toffee Pudding
Published on Wednesday 28th March 2007
Serves 8-10
Prep Time – 30 Minutes
Cooking Time – Long enough to heat the pudding through
Too many cals to mention!
If you have ‘pudding lovers’ coming for dinner or Sunday lunch then this recipe will elicit plenty of compliments.
Ingredients
1 loaf of thick sliced white bread – crusts removed
450g butter
450g dememrara sugar
750g golden syrup
500ml blue top milk
Cut the bread into pieces measuring approx 5cm x 2cm and put to one side.
To make the toffee sauce, heat the butter, sugar and syrup gently in a large pan, stirring until melted. Then boil the sauce more rapidly until it changes to a really golden brown colour. Be sure to stir it the whole time.
Boil the milk and then remove from the heat.
Briefly dip each piece of bread into the milk, then coat it with the toffee sauce and place it in a flattish ovenproof dish, arranging them attractively until all the bread is used up.
Just before you are ready to serve, pour the remainder of the toffee sauce over the bread and warm through in a moderate oven.
This is absolutely delicious served with double cream or a good quality vanilla ice cream.
