Wet Races & Soggy Hats...

Published on Monday 18th June 2007

It’s the middle of June and you don’t need me to tell you that the weather is just not what we would hope it to be. After a glorious couple of scorching weeks about a month ago, it all seems to have gone down hill.

OK, I know it’s not freezing, but let’s be honest, it’s certainly not boiling either. I’ve just checked the 5 day weather forecast for this week and, surprise surprise, there’s a pretty consistent big black cloud showing for as far ahead as I could see.

I must confess to having a small OCD when it comes to checking the weather (being a true Brit, I've a feeling I'm not alone) but this week being Royal Ascot makes it even more of a bore. If the forecast is right then there’s going to be an awful lot of soggy expensive hats and a lot of unhappy ladies.

I’m dreaming (hoping and praying!) for the perfect day: temperature in the mid twenties, bright sunshine and no breeze (so my skirt doesn’t fly up and reveal all), and we'd be able to wear our hats without the worry that they’ll blow off or get absolutely soaked (a couple of years ago I binned my favourite after an Ascot washout).

lock hatters & co starstruckYou might have gathered that I've a small penchant for hats and it’ll come at no surprise to hear that I’ve fallen head over heels with the fabulous selection at James Lock and Co (most of us who’ve seen it have). The only hitch is that they do come at a price and if the BBC are on the mark, and you're going to Ascot thsi week, then you can be sure you’ll spend more time worrying about the value of what’s on your head (not that it’s not worth it) than where your horse has come in.

So if the weather is putting you off, visit Hats by Cressida, where you’ll find an array of simply gorgeous hats and fascinators that’ll give you a show stopping look without the hefty price tag.

And hey, if you buy more than one, then there’s always next year...
