What To Wear Skiing in Colorado...
Published on Wednesday 27th January 2010
Group skiing holidays are a complete nightmare to coordinate – especially as you get older. Weddings, work commitments and dare I say the fact that most of your friends now have more than just a plus one. Last year’s lot all fit into one of the above so instead of trying to team up four couples who don’t know each other and vary from beginner to brilliant, the accountant and I have decided to head to Colorado for our skiing fix this year.
Economic climate / house buying etc etc meant last year’s skiing was a long weekend en famille so this year something a little longer is definitely in order. Plus we got together 10 years ago working in the Alps so it would be a shame not to celebrate this season.
His brother lives in Denver so we thought what better than a few days with them and then a road trip (in a suitably American rental kind of car – I’m thinking it has to be 4x4) to Aspen and Vail where I can people watch to my heart’s content.
The accountant is concerned that we’ve picked the busiest period whereas I just see it as the perfect excuse to sit back and sip cocktails in the kind of bars that I read about in Hedgefund Wives. Ok so perhaps we’ll ski a bit too though the older I get the more important a late start, a long lunch and an early finish becomes...
As the ski pass in Aspen makes Val D’Isere / the Three Valleys / Verbier look like a bargain I can’t say that there is much budget for the latest Chanel ski suit (sure there will be lots to look at though) but being ultra organised I have just ordered some great thermals from the TopShops Sno range (we’re not going until late March but I feel the cold like no one else) and managed to find a pair of Tecnica Moon Boots for £50 so hopefully I won’t look completely out of place.
