What will we be wearing next Spring? Round up of the SS08 trends.
Published on Wednesday 31st October 2007

The hysteria surrounding each season’s fashion week has now died down and the question you’re asking is what will I be wearing? The shift in trends from this winter through to summer was subtle with basic elements such as colour, high waists staying the same, and a continuing push towards elegance. But of course, as always with fashion, there are differences.

brittique spring summer blogAfter the solid bold colours of winter, block colour is staying put but giving way to more subtle shades of candy colours. Think of sugared almonds in baby pink, yellow and blue. Bolder colours however could still be found.

That said, the colour palette extended to include more muted colours such as grey, tan, beige, ivory and khaki.

These natural colours were often paired with flowing silky cuts such as long shirts over baggy cropped trousers, shorts and skirts, or very loose fitting asymmetrical dresses. Very romantic and easy wearing.

Keeping with the romance theme, large floral and abstract prints were seen in abundance on the catwalks.

The bolder and brighter the print the better. These daring prints were generally worked into dresses but also into trousers, tops, skirts, shorts and playsuits; the other big news for summer.

Love them or loathe them, high waisted pencil skirts and trousers are here for another season. Trousers are either very wide leg or very skinny but the waist is high. Again, skirts are fitted or shaped, but the waistbands will sit on your real waist. This will feel strange after years of hipsters, but do give it a chance. A high waist is very flattering hiding larger thighs and behinds, and nipping in the waist.

Already I’m excited by the new season because it’s just so wearable. And there’s a lot of overlap from other seasons which means, with some careful planning, you can easily update your wardrobe with just a few key pieces.

From February, Brittique.com will be featuring all key trends for the new Spring / Summer 08 season.
