Working Mums
Published on Wednesday 3rd June 2009
Gosh, it’s been roasting! I’m not complaining - it’s lovely - but rushing around in the heat isn’t fun. The Baby Gurus is suddenly in demand for forward-thinking companies looking to support pregnant women (and getting them back to work smoothly).
I just spent three days in Glasgow speaking to women who’ve found the whole baby business stressful. Going back to work after time off was very much at the top of the agenda.
It’s no mean feat, going back to work after maternity leave. Planning, planning and some more planning makes the whole thing smoother (try Smythson’s Yummy Mummy notebook - totally fabulous to help with your agenda).
Choosing childcare that works for both Mum and baby is a good start. People often choose a nursery near home but perhaps it’s worth thinking about it being close to work.
Babies often become clingy (often happens from 7 months onwards), so it’s worth considering when you go back to work in relation to your baby's stage.
My cherubs peaked clingyness at 1 and I remember it well. It’s a normal reaction to separating Mum and baby - they need to know you're coming back.
I did hear that playing peak-a-boo as a baby can help babies know you’ll come back… I never did test this theory so I’ve no idea if it works, but perhaps it’s worth a try…
