Coffee With Britt Linter
of Britt Lintner

britt-lintner-coffee-with-2.jpgAmerican born Britt Lintner founded her fashion label in 2005. She lives in Holland Park with her husband and her son Jules and juggles her time working for Hedge Fund GLG, looking after her family and managing her very successful brand. She’s expecting her second little boy in 10 weeks time.

We had a coffee with Britt to find out what inspired her to set up her own business, dig deep about all her shopping habits and discover where she likes to shop online.

britt-lintner-high-end-fashion.jpgWhat inspired you to create Britt Lintner?
I’d been in the finance world for a good 13 years and I wanted to fill the gap between professional and personal wear.

I was sick of wearing suits and feeling drab by the end of the day in what I was wearing but still having to go out for dinner in it with clients; I wanted to create a product that could fill this gap and stop women arguing with their wardrobes every morning.

What makes your product unique?
Everything we make has the three C’s in mind: corporate, chic and comfortable. All of these give you the sweet spot, confidence and our brand is now becoming a metaphor for making girls look AND feel good.

The other things is that everything we create is about needs, not trends. Our aim is to create something you can throw on without thinking about it; it’s fast and uniform like without being masculine.

What’s your best selling product / label?
britt-lintner-coffee-with.jpgThe dresses that are most subtle sell the best so muted tones, no prints and usually fabric with a bit of stretch in it. Probably the Kari.

How do you get a good work/life balance?
This is a difficult one for me because I’m constantly working and it’s a daily battle to have some time off. It’s a steep learning curve having your own business; your brain is constantly ticking away thinking of new ideas.

I now make sure that if it’s not mandatory I do the bare minimum on the weekend to try and reenergise and we have a rule in our house that the laptops go off at 10 o’clock.

I think I’ve learnt that if I tell myself I’ll get it done and I’m conscientious, then I always do.

How would you characterise your fashion style?
Timeless with a twist! I don’t do a lot of accessories and I don’t wear much makeup.

I think less is more and if you’re ever in doubt, simple is best.

coco-chanel-coffee-with.jpgWho would you say is your style icon?
Coco Chanel for sure.

Who or what is your favourites designer / label?
My favourite fashion period is 1950's and 60's Paris. I love Dior’s New Look and what Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga did at that time.

Where do you buy your denim and why?
Radcliffe Denim! Suzi is a great friend of mine and her jeans are well cut and so comfortable.

Where do you buy your knitwear and why?
Temperley does great knitwear. It’s amazing quality with a design element to it as well.

Heels or flats and where do you buy them?
Both! Flats by day and heels by night.

I believe that you should never scrimp on shoes, bags and belts so I always buy my flats from Blue Velvet and for my heels I love Stella, Yves Saint Laurent and Rupert Sanderson.

Where did you shop for your maternity wear?
I actually make my own maternity pieces, especially for work. Other than that I just go to the high street and buy flowy things. Zara and Topshop have some great things.

Where do you shop for your children’s clothes?
My Mum and my sister send everything over from the states because it’s just so much cheaper over there.

Do you eat organic and live an eco conscious lifestyle?
We rent a flat at the moment so I can’t be as eco conscious as I’d like but we still do the basics like recycle, turn computers off at night, use energy efficient light bulbs and turn the water off etc.

We also drive a Hybrid Prius car but we don’t live in a solar powered house with a wind turbine outside... yet!

jo-malone-grapefruit-fragrance.jpgWhat beauty products are currently in your bathroom cabinet?
Laura Mercier Almond and Coconut body cream which smells so delicious I want to eat myself when I put it on, Ina Crystals and a few things from Estee Lauder.

What’s your signature fragrance?
The one I always go back to is Jo Malone Grapefruit. It wakes you up in the morning and keeps you feeling fresh all day.

Which skincare brand do you depend on?
I’m not loyal to beauty products so I’ll try them all as long as they smell good.

I like Decleor and the Shu Uemura cleanser is awesome. I also love the Eve Lom facial wax cleanser because it feels like it’s doing something really good to my skin. It doesn’t smell that great though!

What are your three must-have make up products?
Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for lips and cheeks in Calypso Coral, By Terry Light Expert and Maybelline Mascara. I’ve tried almost every brand but this is my favourite by far because it doesn’t flake.

How would you describe the style of your home?
Shabby chic. My husband is French so we live quite bohemianly. It’s all quite thrown together.

Where do you buy your furniture and home accessories?
I love Lotts Road but we don’t actually spend that much on furniture at the moment because we still rent.

net-a-porter-shoes-britt-coffee-with.jpgOnce we get around to buying a house we’ll do it all at once but at the moment all the money is going into the business.

And finally, where else do you love to indulge?
Net A Porter.com if I need some shoes urgently. And Mothercare for my little one.
