Coffee With Nicole Bremner
of Brittique
Nicole Bremner is founder of online boutique Brittique.com . She worked as an analyst for a large fund manager before taking the leap into fashion in 2006. Nicole recently moved to New York but regularly travels back to London for fashion shows and events. She is pregnant with her first baby.
We had a coffee with Nicole to find out what inspired her to set up her own business, dig deep about all about her shopping habits and discover where she likes to shop online.
What inspired you to set up Brittique.com?
I was working in banking and knew I wanted my own business but wasn’t quite sure doing what. Spending all of my time shopping online I realised that it was really hard to find all the edgy new designers that were getting left behind in the google rankings and thought there was a niche for an online boutique that stocked new British designers.
What makes your product unique?
We stock all new British designers which are so hard to find.
How do you get a good work/life balance?
I love what I do so my work is more like a hobby. I have absolutely no problem working all weekend; if I was working for someone else this wouldn’t be the case.
What’s your best selling product / label?
Camilla Staerk shoes are a huge hit and Emma Cook also flies out the door.
How would you characterise your fashion style?
Loose and baggy at the moment because I’m pregnant but usually I’m pretty varied. I love to be a bit Brick Lanesque and east it up with big scarves and boots; that said I’d be just as happy to throw on my Tods and head to Sloane Square.
Where do you buy your denim and why?
I am currently eyeing up 7 For All Mankind maternity jeans but usually I’m a huge fan of Camilla Staerk’s Jeans. They bunch up beautifully at the bottom so they’re never too long and they really do suit everyone.
Where do you buy your cashmere and why?
No one does it better than Amanda Wakeley . It’s quite stunning.
Heels or flats and where do you buy them?
For day I’m definitely a flats girl and love my Tod’s . For evening it’s got to be heels, especially Gil Carvalho .
Where are you shopping for your maternity wear?
I can’t get enough of Isabella Oliver . I spend so much time on her website and I just can’t rate it highly enough. I’ve also just bought cardigan form Formes
which I’ll even wear after I’ve had my baby.
Do you eat organic and live an eco conscious lifestyle?
Yes definitely where possible. I grew up in Australia where there were always water shortages so I’m very conscious of running water and long showers. I’m forever nagging my other half half to turn the tap off!
Do you ever buy food online? And if so where from?
Ocado.com. I ‘m their biggest fan and I miss it so much now that I live in New York.
What beauty products are currently in your bathroom cabinet?
Miessence . It’s 100% natural. I’m really conscious of what I’m putting on my skin now I’m pregnant and I can fully rely on this.
What’s your signature fragrance?
For summer I love Elizabeth Arden Green Tea and for winter Chanel Coco Mademoiselle .
What’s your are three must-have make up products?
I wear the same things every day. Clinique Superfit Makeup , Estee Lauder MoreThan Mascara , and Molton Brown lipsheer (I get it free on the plane)!
How would you describe the style of your home?
Contemporary minimalist but I dream of a shabby chic house in London.
Where do you buy your furniture and home accessories?
The last furniture I bought was from Habitat and then I stripped it down and stained it a gorgeous Mahogany colour. Very creative I know. For my soft furnishings I head straight to Oka’s website . It’s amazing!
What kind of linen do you go for and where do you buy it?
Egyptian Cotton only and I always buy it online at John Lewis .
And finally, what are your favourite online stores?
IsabellaOliver.com – can’t rate it highly enough, the service was fantastic, Devidoll.com , OkaDirect.com and Ocado
