A Girl's Night In
Wednesday 21st November 2007 by Dulwich Mum

dulwich mum 2Bea Parry-Jones is a late thirty something mother of two. She’s author of hugely successful blog Dulwichmum , in which she documents her efforts to avoid absolute lunacy and remain on the right side of conscientious parenting. She and her husband spend a small fortune on private education, Baby Boden, Babybels and the au pairs gym membership.

Bea’s first novel “Sex Lies and Sellotape – confessions of a Dulwich mum” will be published in 2008.

Month by month, Bea will be featuring everything from the best baby changing bags that won’t let the side down to must have buggies that'll ensure supremacy at the school gates as well as a whole host of Yummy Mummy treats because ‘Becoming a mummy doesn’t mean one loses the will to live...’

First thing’s first, I have to tell you about the best Yummy Mummy treat I have ever experienced!

This month heralded a special unwelcome birthday... (omg, ohmygod, OH.MY.GOD!!!) When my mother turned, er... my age, I was almost sixteen years old. Indeed, times have changed. Along with most of my friends, my poppets are still littlies, and I like to think of... er, this milestone, as the new thirty (please say you agree?).

girls night in dulwich mum 2My perfect husband James arranged for myself and a group of super girl chums to have a special birthday celebration at the uber fabulous Berkeley Hotel , and what a wonderful and amazing weekend we have had. I feel like a different girl! Darling James booked the entire break on the web (what a saint).

Myself and five friends had a Girls Night In package in the elegant newly decorated Berkeley Suite, which included an opulent baby pink box cram packed with chocolate, crisps biscuits and snacks galore. We watched our choice of chick flick, indulged in complimentary luxurious body products, gorged on ice cream and cocktails (in our case - trays of Mojitos) and even enjoyed manicures in our suite! We had a ball.

The package includes absolutely everything, from the use of the gym and glamorous pool to Asprey bath products and Diptyque candles. The ethereal colour scheme in the suite was complemented perfectly by the fragrant white roses and arum lilies; every detail was perfectly divine.

The morning after the night before (we watched ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’ – a personal favourite) I choose the most delicious Essie nail colour Pepperoni for my manicure (which was completely out of character for me), and my hands now look terribly trendy and glamorous.

You know, I genuinely don’t mind getting a little older now; over the years I’ve developed a refined pallet and I now have the money to indulge in a few of the finer things in life. I arrived back at home a new woman, and I no longer care a jot that this pampering treat took James just minutes to arrange...

Dropping Freya off at her reception class tomorrow I shall look demure and elegant; Dulwichmum has engaged in a little suburban renewal! Indeed, from now on I shall make a priority of looking after myself; I am my own version of a conservation area...
