Is it me or are the men in our lives VERY hard to buy for??? (I’m so glad you agree - I knew I wasn’t alone.) Special occasions are all opportunities for me to scream out to anybody that happens to be passing “What can I possibly buy him??? NO, I’m NOT getting him socks; he works too hard for me to buy him socks!!”

April is birthday month in our household and it’s not just any birthday, future hubby is turning thirty! I for one was very much looking forward to leaving my twenties behind me but I’m not sure that the love of my life is feeling quite so enthusiastic which means that any gifts he receives have to fulfil certain criteria...

  • They mustn’t remind him of the fact that he is getting older
  • They must make him feel that he is still able to indulge in all things ‘boyish’
  • I need to like them too or they won’t be coming in the door... (you think I’m joking don’t you?)

tree to my door oak treeI’ve scoured the hallowed pages of SheerLuxe for the perfect gifts to accompany the Wii Bundle I already have hiding in the back of the wardrobe (the Wii gets through the door because it’s nice and white) but I’ve found a few other gifts that are perfect for my tricky chap.

Tree to My Door are a real find and I’ve had great fun looking at all the different types of trees that I could have delivered to my sweetheart who loves to garden (yes I know – that’s grownup; we won’t point it out to him though!). The site gives you the ancient history of the tree you’re considering as well as running a tree conservation scheme on the website. Can’t much sexier than that! And thoughtful too.

I’ve also found some little gems at the V&A print site. I know that my man loves to have bright colours in the house so whilst I’m trying to subdue this urge by convincing him of the merits of the muted shade I have to indulge him from time to time. And a picture is always a great pressie on a big birthday.

v and a prints tea revives you printThe Tea Revives You print is a wonderfully silly illustration of a couple drinking tea on the beach; I’m sure it’ll make him smile and it’s really rather retro / vintage so it too can definitely come through the door.

My final choice for this year’s birthday is a boys toy: a Lexon Kite . What better way of getting your man out of the house and into the fresh air, allowing you time to try out the new Farrow & Ball shades on the bathroom. “No my darling, you must go out for hours at a time and fly your kite. I’ll be fine here, all alone with my paintbrush.” You get the picture... and the best bit? He can keep it in the garden shed so it needn’t come anywhere near the front door!

So you see there ARE ways and means!
