As someone who loves food and its preparation I’m always SO pleased when the asparagus season finally arrives. It marks the end of the root vegetable season and heralds the beginning of the late spring and summer produce that I so dearly love.

It’s also at around this time that the table in my kitchen which holds the recipe books I’m currently mulling over gets rotated and refreshed. Off come the cosy winter cook books and on go the lighter, brighter, inspiring tomes which see me through until September.

amazon tessa kiros two bestsellersWith this in mind, I thought I’d share a few books with you that are either on my wish list or that I simply couldn’t get through the new season without.

Two books by the wonderful Tessa Kiros fall into the latter category. The purchase of Apples for Jam and Falling Cloudberries , about two years ago now, was a memorable time for in my culinary life.

Tessa has brought together entire generations of family recipes and made them into books that transport you from one country to another via funny tales and family history. The pictures, titles and recipes themselves all pay huge parts in making these books worthy of the title ‘Most Beautiful Cookbooks in the world’….Ever!

amazon jill dupleix lighten up Lighten Up: A New Healthier Way To Cook by Jill Dupleix is a book that I hope to have on my shelf in the very near future. There’s nothing worse than the feeling of being stuffed to the brim from the food we eat. We shovel breakfast, lunch and supper down because we’re short of time and then are left with a horrid feeling as we waddle our way through the afternoon.

This book strikes the right note giving clear and simple directions on how to eat well whilst at the same time ‘lightening up’ our meals of choice.

amazon how to be a better foodieFinally, do treat yourself to the tiny little book How to be a better foodie by Sudi Pigott – it’s a bulging little book for the truly epicurious - do your store cupboard essentials past muster? What is the latest prada for the larder?.

We had a very warm Easter last year and future hubby and I lay on the lawn of Blenheim Palace whilst I read this in the sun. It’s bulging with great information and lovely foodie facts and makes a great gift too.

In fact I think I may just have to bring it down off the shelf for an anniversary read!
