Pack away the pretty pastels and the high shine brights. Autumn has arrived which means its time to stock up on this season’s beauty bag essentials and reveal a polished new look. Makeup has gone all grown-up with gothic overtones, seductive shades and matte textures in keeping with the structured styles seen on runway models.

With eyes taking centre stage this season, choose eye shadows in navy, deep purples or, preferably, black. Go for a smoky shade or, for an edgier look, an intense block of colour. Emphasise with mascara plus plenty of smudgey kohl for glam-rock chic and keep brows well groomed but not over-defined.

On the blusher front, apricot tones work for most: layer over a flawless base, applying a skin-perfecting balm first to smooth lines and uneven areas if necessary. The forever-fashionable red lip always makes an appearance at this time of year with this season’s take on the look spotlighting black-red tones and burgundies.
