confetti-direct-basket-of-cones.jpgMention the word confetti and you immediately think of the stuff that’s thrown at weddings. Be it rice, bits of paper in the shape of hearts and bells or preferably dried flowers. (Though personally I’ve never had a penchant for pot pourri to be tipped on top of my wedding dress but each to their own I suppose.)

These days however confetti can be used in the home. And I’m not talking weddings – I’m talking at the table, every day or at least on special occasions. You really can be imaginative with table confetti and it really is only our imaginations that will stop our tables from becoming not only culinary delights but visual treats also. So, in the name of all things delightful here are some ideas that you might just like to try.

truly_madly.jpg Rose petals. I often use petals in my own home. Silk rose petals. A very soft tone coupled with a more vibrant colour works well. Be they real or not, petals are perfect for a day with the girls, a bridal party or a baby shower. For freeze dried petals try TrulyMadlyDeeply.

Flower heads. If you’re to use entire flower heads then stick to large daisies, gerberas or marguerites. You can float them in the punch bowl – yes along with the punch, have them poking out of the cupcakes/crust-free sandwiches or use them in the same way as petals and scatter them near and far.

cherry-daily-confetti-decoartive-country-living.jpg Bows and trim. I have used bows, ribbon and trimmings forever; the easiest, prettiest and surprisingly most cost efficient way to give your table a make-over.

Pick out a length of ribbon that you love, choose another contrasting but complimentary length and tie bows to all and sundry: to the backs of chairs, to your candle sticks, to the bread sticks, around napkins and to your wrists also. Can’t have you clashing with the table! For trimmings try MacCulloch & Wallis.

a-quarter-of-pear-drops.jpg Sweets. Sweeties are a tremendous way of spoiling your guests and they’ll love nothing more than picking at them. AQuarterOf.com is a wonderful old fashioned online sweet shop so if you decide to go for this theme then purchase the most nostalgic and memory inducing sweets you can find.

Finally remember that a ribbon with spilt dressing on it or a guest that doesn’t like strawberry bon-bons is not what’s important. What’s important it that you have your guests “ooohing” and “ahhing” as they see the supposed ‘effort’ that you have gone to in order to make the table they are about to dine at a wonderland of creativity and prettiness.
