I remember reading somewhere that keeping to-do lists was not such a good thing. I can’t quite remember what it was that was so terrifically bad about them...

I think it had something to do with the fact that feeling like you'd achieved something each time you scrubbed another job off the list wasn’t the sort of achievement that you should be aiming to feel.

Scrap that, I worship at the feet of to-do lists.

maddie brown notebook cherry feature In practical terms they’re physical reminders of bits and bobs that you need to get done. In feel good terms it feels super blooming dooper to cross off another item from the list, knowing that you’ve either finished something that you weren’t really looking forward to or that you have just had a splendid time working on something that you’ve enjoyed.

I’m going to expand on the thoughts I have on to-do lists and the ways to make them work for you next week but as a starter I’d like to leave you with some initial ideas for creating to-do lists that'll leave you absolutely certain of where you are at in your day to day, business, home and / or social life.

Choose a pen that’s easy to find and one that you can carry with you. Some of your lists will need updating throughout the day as inspiration arrives.

  • Hang on to your lists. This is optional of course but if you manage to construct your lists in a way that makes it easy to go back and re-read them, in one year’s time you’ll be walking on clouds of uplifting brilliance at all that you have achieved.

I’m a firm believer that when we get downhearted and lose our energy it has a lot to do with the fact that we’re only able to remember the negative. Each entry that you cross off a list is something that you have completed. If you’re unable to keep a regular journal then this is a wonderful substitute and is great fun to pull out when you need a firm talking to!

See you for more list love next week.
