cherry menlove autumn articleGoodness knows how hard it is to let go of the summer (not that we’ve had much of a summer in this country) and start to look towards cooler and darker months. But, as we hurtle towards rising and going to bed in the dark there is one place that need never know how dull and cold it is outside…your home.

In order for your home to enter the new season successfully it’s important to start thinking about a few changes to make ahead of time. If you are thinking about purchasing anything new for your cosy nook this Autumn I have three words for you: Keep It Light!

  • Prepare your warmer bedding and blankets. If any of these items need dry cleaning do it now – don’t leave it until your first ‘Hollywood Musicals Afternoon’ on the sofa one Sunday because if they haven’t seen the light of day for months then the sight of them might disappoint you.

  • After laundering (and only after laundering) begin to tuck away summer items either in a separate cupboard or to the back of drawers and wardrobes. Bring out your slightly warmer knitwear and jackets that'll ease you into September with less of a bump.

  • If there’s an area in your home that has been crying out for you to de-clutter or re-organise DO IT NOW! I’m speaking of overflowing spare wardrobes, guest bedrooms and pantry’s. It’s a wonderful feeling to nestle down and hibernate in a clutter free home.

  • Take a look at the foods that are coming into season this September and work on creating a brand new signature dish using entirely seasonal ingredients. (Note I say work on – you won’t get it right the first time).

  • vanille at home cherry If the thought of saying goodbye to summer gets too much and you’re able to treat your home to a little something new then I urge you to visit Vanille . This beautiful company offers lighting, glassware and furniture with a wonderfully romantic and continental feel that’ll help keep your home light, warm and welcoming in the months ahead.

Hibernating has never been so much fun!
